One Room Challenge - Laundry Room Redo - The Finale

Hello and Welcome to The Finale of the One Room Challenge!  It has been a whirlwind 7 weeks getting my parent's laundry room from post-Katrina-sheetrock-repair-meets-1999-oak-cabinet-overload to the colorful, chic space it is now.  I must say, I am thrilled with how it turned out.

Before I get to the good stuff, I would like to offer another thanks to Linda from Calling it Home for once again hosting the fantastic One Room Challenge.  Hats off to you, sweet friend.

What reveal is complete without a reminder of just how sad this space was before?

It is hard to believe that in just seven short weeks, we went from that to this:

Meet my sisters, Holly and Chelsea

Shade fabric  |  Art  |  Faucet  |  Wallpaper  |  Paint

Chandelier - vintage

Rug

Garment Rack - DIY

Pulls

Thank you again to my parents for allowing me to be a little daring in their home and a huge shout out to Amy Holloway of Amy Holloway Photography for the absolutely beautiful photos.  If you are in the Mobile area, she does phenomenal work and I could not recommend her more.

Please be sure to spend some time visiting the One Room Challenge Featured Designers as well as the Guest Participants.  Thank you for taking the time to share this journey with me!

One Room Challenge - Laundry Room Redo - The Reveal(ish)

Hello and Welcome to the ORC Reveal(ish).

Unfortunately, my photographer has fallen ill so I have had to hire a back-up.  She isn't available until tomorrow, so my reveal post will be up on Saturday.  In the meantime, here is a bit of iPhone eye candy to tide you over.

See you on Saturday!

One Room Challenge - Laundry Room Redo - Week Six

Hello and Welcome to Week Six of the ORC.  If this is your first time joining and you would like to  get caught up, visit Week One, Week Two, Week Three, Week Four, and Week Five.

As you are likely aware, the ORC is typically a six-week challenge, however, due to the many natural disasters that have struck our great nation this year, our hostess with the mostest Linda from Calling it Home, has graciously allowed for an extra week.  Thank goodness for that!  This week we are going to talk about art.  This is the most difficult thing for me to choose for someone else.  Art is very personal and what one person adores, another abhors.  (I cannot adequately express the depth of my pleasure in that rhyme).

I sent Mama tons of options for the room.  She immediately fell in love with the work of YangYang Pan, a Canadian artist that has the most beautiful, colorful abstract art.

Stunning, aren't they?  Obviously, her originals go for far more money than we wanted to spend for a laundry room, so we were thrilled to find that she sells prints in her Etsy shop.

She was amazing to work with and our art arrived quicker than expected.  We framed them in these brass frames from Target.  I love how they turned out.

One Room Challenge - Laundry Room Redo - Week Five

Hello and Welcome to Week 5 of the ORC.  If you are new here, you can see the progress we have made on my parent's laundry room - Week One, Week Two, Week Three, and Week Four.  As always, a huge thank you to Linda from Calling it Home for hosting this awesome kick-in-the-pants event to help motivate us to get this room completed!

Last week I showed you the paint color we selected and how we started painting the cabinets.  Guess what we did this week?  Paint.  Yep.

And Paint.

And Paint.

And Paint.

And paint.

Check out Daddy making his blog debut.  True story - Mama asked me to crop out the fact that he was in his PJs.  I refused - I think he looks casually classy.  Besides, he has a hat on...so that makes it an outfit.

Be sure to visit the ORC Featured Designers and other Guest Participants.  See you next week.

One Room Challenge - Laundry Room Redo - Week Four

Welcome to Week Four of the One Room Challenge.  In case you haven't heard, due to all of the terrible natural disasters of late, Linda has graciously extended the deadline of the ORC by a week.  I am so thankful that she did so, and I am sure others are also.

Week Four is a tough one.  It's really crunch time and you have to start making go or no-go decisions.  Doesn't that sound totally dramatic and earthshattering?  So it goes with the ORC - it can be all-consuming - but SO worth it in the end.

This week has been all about the paint.  We decided on Behr Ocean Abyss for the trim and cabinets.  We used oil-based paint on the cabinets and latex on the trim.

To remind you how the laundry room looked before, complete with sheetrock repair circa 2005

After lots of prep work, we were ready to paint.  And paint.  And paint.  Three coats on the trim and two on the cabinets later

Y'all, I cannot tell you how much I love this color and how amazing it looks in here.  I mean, it's a hot mess right now, but I can see how it will be in the future and it makes me want to squeal.  I was SO worried about the cabinets looking super country with that arch, but they look chic painted.  And, bonus, I think that Mama is loving the painted cabinets.  She even started talking colors "if" we were to paint her kitchen cabinets, something she would not even consider in years past.  That is huge, let me tell you, true progress.  Or it could have just been the Moscow mules we drank.

Until next week, folks.  Be sure to visit all of the One Room Challenge Featured Designers and the other ORC Guest Participants

Thanks,
Kimber
